Fig Restaurant

Whether you are craving a satisfying brunch poolside, a romantic dinner, or a fun happy hour, Fig, is the place to be. Located at Santa Monica’s Fairmont Miramar Hotel, is not only a beautiful and charming restaurant, their food is brought in from the famous Santa Monica Farmer’s Market. The cuisine covers the gamut from a delicious Mary’s chicken to Lobster Cobb Salad. There is something here for everyone. And don’t forget their Fig at 5 Happy Hour where everything is half off, including their wine!

Birdie G’s

Located in Santa Monica’s Bergamont Station, Birdie G’s is a nod of love from celebrated chef Jeremy Fox to his Grandma. A neighborhood gem with locally sourced food and a hint of nostalgia, this fabulous restaurant is a great date spot but also a wonderful place to take the kids and introduce them to an eclectic menu.

Bluey’s Market & Cafe

Talk about a hidden gem! You have to know about this place or you’ll never find it. Some say it is one of the jewels on the Westside. Bluey’s offers fresh, seasonal food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You must try their pancakes (featured photo above), as well as their bowls, breakfast burritos, and more. They even have a marketplace and a meal subscription plan. Just an amazing neighborhood restaurant (and right down the street from me!).

Broad Street Oyster Co.

Take a drive up historic PCH to Malibu and pick up the best lobster roll you will ever have at Broad Street Oyster Company Malibu. Their lobster rolls are so famous they only allow two per order. To comply with social distancing, Broad Street has installed a tiki-hut inspired drive-thru. Also, don’t forget to try their other delicious, fresh seafood dishes.

And One Fabulous Destination…

Nights of the Jack

As Halloween is fast approaching, I thought I would throw in a seasonal event that is good for a date night or a family excursion. Located on King Gillette Ranch in Calabasas, this is a drive-thru experience that is a delight for the eyes. I just experienced it with my daughter and we were mesmerized by the sights and sounds that seemed to go on forever. HINT: We brought blankets, hot chocolate, and rolled down the windows for the ultimate experience. Buy your tickets in advance as this will sell out. Have a spook-tacular time!

A little extra something: Here are some HIDDEN GEMS I covered this week…

Vinovore

How cool is this hidden L.A. gem? A wine window where the entire wine shop is run and owned by women. Located in Silverlake and called Vinovore. Apparently, these wine windows date back to the Medieval times and are very popular in Italy. We are now lucky enough to enjoy them in L.A. Here's the fun part: You walk up to the window, check out the selection to the right, press the button when you're ready to order, and a friendly sommelier will help you select what you're looking for. I was so excited to see they had a selection of hard-to-find orange wine (yes, it's a thing and it's delicious). Tell the friendly woman your likes and dislikes and she will make a lovely recommendation. They even offer a wonderful cheese selection for you to take along with your new selection. Purchasing vino has never been more fun!

Lenita by Grita

One of the most unique ways to purchase flowers is by the Lenita Flower Truck by Grita. With two trucks currently located in front of Tartine Sycamore and Tartina Santa Monica, this one-of-a-kind, eye-catching pink truck sells gorgeous bouquets of flowers delicately hand-wrapped with care. Created by artist Nemuel DePaula, he finds inspiration for his floral creations through the arts in his Downtown design studio. Picked fresh each morning from The Original Los Angeles Flower Market, Nemuel makes each arrangement available to anyone who wishes to purchase out of his beautiful pink truck. Sweet fact: Lenita is named after his lovely mother.
