Summer is Knocking on our Doors
Let’s admit admit it. We are all sick and tired of being cooped up inside. There are those of you who believe enough is enough, open up, move on with our lives, it’s just the flu, I’m done. Then there are those of you who have been personally touched by COVID and know this is not just like the flu, and we need to be cautious. I am not here to get into a political debate and frankly, politics don’t belong in a health battle. But this is regarding the health of your loved ones and the health of those you may not know. There was a sobering statistic yesterday: 35% of the population has an underlying health risk, and some of you may not know yet that you have a health issue because it has not yet surfaced. And this is not factoring in the elderly. As COVID has a two-week incubation period, we do need to be cautious. But yes, we do need to move on with our lives, and society needs to prosper. People are becoming angry, downright mean. It would be wonderful for everyone to take a deep breath, be just a bit more patient, understand that our medical professionals and advisors are working with an unknown virus and are really doing the best they can. We will get through this. We are opening up. But please remember, wearing that mask is not asking you to conform, to be a so-called “sheep”, it’s so you don’t unknowingly infect someone like my high-risk child who can’t stay inside until there is a vaccine, or the checkout person at your local market, or the woman you are passing by on the street who just found out she is pregnant. And last I checked, none of us, including those who don’t wear masks, are invincible. We are human. Let’s start treating each other with respect and kindness. A little goes a long way.
Now that we are slowly being able to venture outside, with precautions, get out and enjoy the beautiful world we are fortunate enough to reside in. But, remember that as there is no vaccine, please adhere to the guidelines that those who know more than you and I are recommending for us to do to remain safe and keep other’s out of harm’s way. Therefore, here are a few more ideas to keep you busy when you are at home. Here are a few thoughts:
Order directly and pickup from your local restaurants (delivery service apps take a huge amount of their profits)
When you are purging your clothes, you can resell them to places such as Wasteland, Buffalo Exchange, and Crossroads (though none of these are open yet). Or you can donate them to a charitable organization, such as Salvation Army, which just reopened their donation centers.
Please be kind online to others, to those you know and have not met. The anger you exhibit is read by many.
Wear a mask outdoors, please. I wear one for you… please return the favor.
