Princesses, Wizards, and Quarantine... Oh My!
IF YOU’RE OLD ENOUGH TO REMEMBER “CALGON, TAKE ME AWAY,” THEN YOU KNOW WHAT I’M REFERRING TO.
There is a great book I used to read to my girls when they were younger. It is completely appropriate for this time in our lives and I highly suggest buying it: Five Minutes Peace. This book gets us, and gets our life, if you have kids. Especially if you have younger children. We love our offspring but it’s the constant questions, the fighting between siblings, the cooking, the cleaning, the online school, having to entertain these animated objects full of boundless energy. You need to be “on” at all times and when you have no escape, no place to truly go, parenting can be daunting (I truly believe the grey in my hair is coming in at a faster rate!). But, this social isolation will pass at some point and believe it or not, you will probably miss this time with your children. They will return to school, or leave to go back to college, hang with their friends, possibly make the dumb mistakes they continue to make because that’s what teenagers do (I could write a book on my own teenage so-called “mistakes”), and our little ones will grow up right before our eyes, which we will then say, “how did they grow up so fast?” So treasure this time no matter how much you want to lock yourself in the closet for five minutes of peace, and give your kids a hug. And to make the time a little more tolerable, here are some virtual suggestions and products I recommend for kids of all ages THAT ARE ALL DISNEY AND HARRY POTTER!!! NOTE: Don’t forget to check my past AND blogs for virtual ideas, hidden gems, product recommendations, and more.
DISNEY
Miscellaneous ideas: Xbox and Wii games, dress up, Disney games to purchase on Amazon (Monopoly, Headbands, Guess Who, Scrabble), puzzles
HARRY POTTER
Miscellaneous: Read the books, have a movie marathon
A PARTING NOTE
May we all embrace the child within us. Take the time to hug your children. Put your phones down and ask them to do the same. We are going through a serious time but maybe don’t always be so serious. Be a goofball, get messy in the kitchen, forget the rules around the house and just let loose. Make breakfast for dinner, wear PJ’s all day, think outside of the box to a time when, as adults, life was less complicated. Write a letter to a loved one. Turn off the electronics. Walk outside and check out your neighborhood, the homes, nature, our world. It’s really a beautiful place. Let’s show the next generation what we can learn from the standstill this virus has created. That as a world we came together and through adversity, sickness and the unknown, we bonded as one. Let’s be positive and show those that depend on us we can be strong through the worst of times and be the example for them to model themselves after when they raise children of their own one day.
